Luxembourg, December 1, 2017. Tuomas Sammelvuo is some kind of a Volleyball icon back home in Finland – and his success story has continued also following his retirement from competitive sport and the start of an equally successful career as a coach. Sammelvuo has been at the helm of the Finnish national team for a number of years and he is currently coaching Russia’s top-division club Kuzbass KEMEROVO as well. What is his secret to success?
A member of the re-established European Coaches Commission (ECOC) since earlier this summer, Sammelvuo has accepted an invitation to provide greater insight into the life and perspectives of a top-level Volleyball coach. Therefore, fans and followers can resort to the CEV’s social media channels to send their questions by using the official hashtag #AskTuomas.
We encourage fans, (young) coaches still in their developing process, players, and all Volleyball enthusiasts not to miss this chance to ask their questions – and we are confident this will help us provide a better understanding of what coaching requires from all parties involved in such an exciting, yet challenging work.
Tuomas will be happy to share his vision and experience in order to help grow the game!
Sammelvuo played a leading role in achieving the most remarkable feats in Finnish Volleyball history – as a player when Finland finished fourth at the 2007 European Championship in Moscow and as a coach when the Finns claimed ninth place at the 2014 World Championship in Poland, in what was their first appearance on the global stage since 1982.
