The CEV Volleyball European Golden League 2025 Women returns for its third week of competition to four venues throughout Europe, as only one team – Ukraine – is unbeaten after the first two weeks of competition, boasting a perfect record of four wins in four matches.
Romania, Slovakia, Sweden and Hungary, which have won three out of their four matches so far, are also in the mix for the top four places in the competition, with three teams progressing to the Final Four, which will be held in Sweden, with the hosts already qualified for the business end of this edition.
Therefore, the battle will be fierce this weekend, as twists and turns are bound to happen, with plenty of teams still in the battle, as Slovenia and Spain are lurking around, having won two matches so far.
The four tournaments scheduled for this weekend will take place in Kaposvár, Hungary, in Zadar, Croatia, in Velenje, Slovenia and in Radom, Poland, as everything is still possible, with the most balanced tournament looking to be the one in Radom, Poland, where Ukraine are designated hosts.
The top team in the competition so far will face two strong sides, as they open their slate on Friday, when they take on Sweden, a team which has conceded a single loss, against Romania, dropping six sets so far. Their next opponent will be Slovakia, which have dropped only four sets, three of which came in the loss against Greece.
Romania’s only loss came against Hungary, in a five-set thriller, on their home court in Blaj, but now they will be hoping to secure another Final Four berth, as they face Azerbaijan, the only team with four losses in four matches, which has won only one set so far, and Croatia, in Zadar. The hosts, Croatia, have won a single match, but have not conceded a loss in straight sets, making them a plucky side to play against.
Final Four hopefuls Hungary, who are eyeing their first podium since 2018 in the CEV Volleyball European Golden League Women, will host one of the tournaments this weekend in Kaposvár, where they face Poland and Montenegro, two of the teams which hold a 1-3 record so far in the first two weeks of the competition. Two wins would see Hungary through to the Final Four.
Slovenia (2-2), Spain (2-2) and Greece (1-3) will meet in Velenje in the other tournament this weekend, with other results needing to go their way provided they are to finish on one of the top three places in the league round and qualify to the Final Four. Both Slovenia and Greece have lost the last two matches played.
So far, Sweden’s powerhouse Isabelle Haak, the MVP of the CEV Champions League Women last season, is the top scorer of the competition, with 114 points, followed by Hungary’s Anett Nemeth, with 106 points, and Greece’s Martha Evdokia Anthouli, with 86 points.
In the CEV Volleyball European Silver League 2025 Women, three tournaments are due to take place in Luxembourg, in Strumica, North Macedonia and Amstetten, Austria. Two teams – Switzerland and Latvia – are unbeaten so far, followed by Austria, which have three wins and one loss.
Switzerland, Latvia and Austria will all meet in the tournament hosted in Amstetten, Austria, with the top two sides in the final standings progressing to the final.
