Injured Hindgren out of EuroVolley – Erica Muhizi called up
News
With just two days to go before the opener, it's been confirmed that 22-year-old middle blocker Gun Hindgren will miss the CEV Trendyol EuroVolley 2026 Women in Göteborg due to a back injury. She is replaced in Sweden's EuroVolley squad by Erica Muhizi.
Gun had a strong summer in the Swedish national team jersey and was named in the EuroVolley squad presented by head coach Lorenzo Micelli in late July. But the Lund VK-trained player from Skåne has now had to withdraw ahead of the historic home tournament at Scandinavium.
"It's obviously really tough right now. Playing at a home EuroVolley was a dream, and I was really looking forward to experiencing this with the team. At the same time, I know the girls are ready, and I'll do everything I can to support them from the sidelines. This team has something special building," said Gun Hindgren.
Gun is replaced by Erica Muhizi, who steps into the Swedish squad ahead of the group stage in Göteborg.
"Huge opportunity, even though the circumstances surrounding Gun's injury are unfortunate. I feel for her – she's one of my best friends on the national team, so I'll be playing for both her and the team. At the same time, I'm very happy and proud to join the squad and represent Sweden at a home EuroVolley. I'll do everything I can to bring energy and hard work, and to be ready whenever the team needs me," said Erica Muhizi.
Head coach Lorenzo Micelli commented on the change: "First of all, it's really unfortunate for Gun. She's had a strong summer with us and has been an important part of the group, so our thoughts are with her. Erica comes in now, bringing energy, physical capacity, and a strong will. She's been with us for much of the summer and will settle into the team quickly."
