Velenje once again became the epicentre of Slovenian Volleyball this past Sunday as the Red Hall hosted the grand finale of the Slovenian Cup, thereby delivering another unforgettable spectacle. With over 1,400 enthusiastic fans packing the sold-out venue, the atmosphere was electric as ACH Volley LJUBLJANA and Calcit KAMNIK emerged victorious to claim the first trophies of the 2024/2025 season.

In the women’s final, Calcit KAMNIK showcased the same dominance they have displayed throughout this season already, overpowering OTP banka Branik MARIBOR in three sets to secure their fifth Slovenian Cup title. Led by Croatian Mika Grbavica, who was named MVP, and young Slovenian outside hitters Maša Pucelj and Asja Šen, the team from Kamnik controlled the pace of the game from start to finish, ultimately celebrating a well-deserved victory.

“We knew this would be a tough match, especially considering the bad experiences from previous years, which made us even more determined to win the cup this time. We put all our quality, energy, and effort into this match, and I believe that because we truly gave it our all, we came out victorious.”

Meanwhile, the men’s final witnessed a showdown between ACH Volley LJUBLJANA and OK i-Vent MARIBOR. The Ljubljana powerhouse confirmed their status as the top team on home soil, clinching their 15th Slovenian Cup title with a 3-0 win. The team from Maribor was highly motivated throughout the match but could not quite keep pace with Matjaž Hafner’s squad, which relied on experience in the key moments of the first and second sets. Slovenia’s rising star Luka Marovt, later named MVP, scored 13 points, the same as his Iranian teammate Amir Mohammad Golzadeh.

“We are extremely happy to claim our first trophy of the season. We know how unpredictable cup competitions can be, as they are often full of surprises. MARIBOR put up a strong fight in the first two sets, but in the key moments, we came together as a team and proved that we deserve the title.”
