News
This weekend, just before the most anticipated #CLVolleyW quarterfinal match-up, two of the most elite squads of the continent, Fenerbahce and Imoco, passed their important opponents with an exceptional service performance on the court.
Turkish quarterfinalist of the CEV Champions League Volley, Fenerbahce Opet Istanbul, met Galatasaray HDI Istanbul in the 19th round of the Sultanlar League. Fenerbahce played a superior game from beginning to end and won the match without losing any sets (3-0: 25-15, 25-13, 25-17).
Fenerbahce side did a remarkable job both in serving and blocking aspects and found a total of 25 points from these areas: The Yellow Angels made a total of 13 aces (Five from young Russian talent Arina Fedorovtseva), as well as 12 blocks (Six from Turkish middle blocker Aslı Kalaç).
The country's other CEV Champions League Volley quarterfinalists, Eczacibasi Dynavit Istanbul and VakifBank Istanbul, also overpowered their rivals and remained in the top two places in the charts.
Fenerbahce's rival in the #CLVolleyW quarterfinals, the last SuperFinalist A. Carraro Imoco Volley Conegliano, took the court against another quarterfinalist, Igor Gorgonzola Novara, in the 22nd round of the Italian Serie A1 Women.
After losing the first set, Daniele Santarelli's squad showed their strength and became victorious by 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-13). Thanks to this victory, they increased their points to 60 and completed the weekend as leaders.
The Imoco side scored eight service points in total, but seven were from Federica Squarcini: The promising Italian middle blocker tallied seven points from the service line and played an impressive game. Turkish opposite Ebrar Karakurt's 20 points were not enough for Novara to win.
Developres Rzeszow had a more challenging match than expected this weekend: They faced UNI Opole in the 19th leg of the Polish Tauron Liga. Even though Rzeszow side was the clear pre-favorite of the clash, there was a big effort from Opole, and they found a 2-1 lead in sets. However, the Developres side then started to show their quality, and they won the fierce battle in a tie-break (3-2: 17-25, 25-14, 22-25, 25-17, 15-11).
Georgian outside hitter Ann Kalandadze became the top-scorer of the match with her 33 points, including five blocks and three aces. Of course, she was also selected as the MVP of the clash.
While all eyes will be on the first leg of the #CLVolleyW quarterfinals, Fenerbahce and Imoco showed how powerful they can be in the service line with huge ace performances this weekend in their huge victories against strong opponents.
