Luxembourg, March 30, 2021. A week ago, the Italians from Saugella Monza concluded a fantastic European season in which they only dropped one set on their path to claiming CEV Cup gold. The determination and ruthlessness showed in the Finals by the team coached by Marco Gaspari was second to none as they made the Turkish side of Galatasaray HDI Istanbul seem powerless for most of the 137 minutes of the two matches combined as they marched to two straight set wins.

Alessia Orro and the golden touch

Saugella Monza’s and Italy’s setter, 23-year-old Alessia Orro is at her first season with the team from Northern Italy and is already making a huge impact. Making the move from Busto Arsizio at the end of an inconclusive 2019-2020 season, Alessia has now won two consecutive CEV Cup trophies with different teams and her performance during the Finals earned her the MVP title as well.

Here is how she did it!

Despite her young age, Alessia Orro is one of the most experienced setters in European volleyball, having been a main pillar of the Italian national team ever since the Rio Olympic Games in 2016. In the early years of her career however, Alessia was playing as a middle blocker and opposite hitter, becoming a setter only after joining Club Italia in 2013 where she would be playing alongside Paola Egonu.

After achieving success at both youth and senor level, with club and country at a young age, Alessia Orro will be looking at adding more trophies to her cabinet in the many seasons still in front of her. In the meantime, volleyball fans will be eagerly anticipating to see her in action at this year’s EuroVolley tournament.
