Thessaloniki, Greece, June 29, 2015. The adventure of Greece men’s national team in the FIVB World League (after a ten-year absence) ended last week, but the blue-white team is now looking forward to their upcoming matches in the 2015 edition of the CEV Volleyball European League.

Greece’s mentor Sotirios Drikos has shortlisted 15 players who joined a first camp on Monday, June 29. Athanasios Maroulis (setter) and Dimitrios Gkaras (libero) have joined the group after missing the World League action whereas Mitar Tzourits (opposite), Nikolaos Angelopoulos (setter) and Georgios Stefanou (libero) will not play in the European League this summer.

“We are at the beginning of the second half of this summer season which is just as important as the first one. Our goal is to maintain the same level and to play in the European League just as well as we did in the World League,” says Mr Drikos.

Greece who are the 2014 European League silver medallists – they lost in the finals to Montenegro – were assigned to Pool B and will play against Romania, Turkey, Croatia, Belarus and Slovenia.

The 15 players called up by Drikos are:

Setters: Dmytro Filippov, Athanasios Maroulis
Outside Spikers: Menelaos Kokkinakis, Athanasios Protopsaltis, Rafail Koumentakis, Andreas-Dimitrios Fragkos, Anestis Dalakouras
Middle Blockers: Georgios Petreas, Georgios Tzioumakas, Panagiotis Pelekoudas, Ioannis Takouridis
