Tirana, Albania, May 1, 2019. Partizani are the women’s national champions of Albania for the second straight year. They swept three matches in a row in the championship series with Tirana, a derby featuring two teams from the Albanian capital. However, the three matches were extremely tight and fun to watch and even dramatic ones, since the two teams fought hard for the crown at stake.

The team coached by Roland Tarja had finished the regular season in fourth place only. However, with the start of the playoffs, Partizani changed pace, edging Mirdita in the semis and Tirana in the finals. Some transfers made in January significantly strengthened the roster of the team and raise the level of their performance.

Tirana put up a fight but they could not stop Partizani, who showed more quality especially in the key moments. “I am very pleased with this triumph. It was not easy, as the regular season showed that there were as many as four teams in contention for the title and we were not on top of the charts. However, we believed in the victory and we succeeded. I thank the team for their commitment after doing such an extraordinary job all year round,” Tarja said.
