Steven Vanmedegael announced as new head coach of Team Slovakia
News
The Slovakian Volleyball Federation has announced that 36-year-old Belgian coach Steven Vanmedegael has taken over the reins of their men’s national team. Vanmedegael has been coaching Belgium’s elite team Knack Volley ROESELARE for quite a number of years – thereby contesting the CEV Champions League and playing a leading role in domestic competitions as well.
“Our main criterium in this recruitment process was to find a young and perspective coach with energy and experience in developing young players. Steven fulfils all these pre-requisites. He is young and from a country similar to Slovakia. He used to work with national teams in Belgium and he prepared many players for the senior level of international Volleyball. We are looking forward to this new chapter in the history of our men’s national team,” said the President of the Slovak Volleyball Federation, Mr Marek Rojko.
Steven Vanmedegael becomes the 12th head coach of the team since the break-up of the former Czechoslovakia in 1993. Further details will be announced next week. Earlier this summer, Slovakia failed to qualify for CEV EuroVolley 2023 – the first time they missed out on such a goal for some 15 years.
