CEV Volleyball European Golden League 2021
Established in 2004 under the name of The European League, the men’s competition transformed into the European Golden League in 2018, with countries being eligible to participate based on the CEV National Team Ranking list or winning the previous season’s European Silver League.
In the men’s competition, Turkey is the current champion having won the 2019 edition, with Estonia, The Netherlands and Slovakia having won the competition twice each.
This year’s men’s competition sees 11 teams (The Netherlands have dropped out of the competition following late acceptance into the Volleyball Nations League 2021) divided into 3 pools where they will play single round robin tournaments. The top team from each pool will win qualification into the Final Four where they will be joined by either the hosts of the tournament, Belgium or the best of the second ranked teams if the host is one of the pool winners.

The Women’s European League was established in 2009 and transformed into the European Golden League in the same year as the men’s competition, 2018. Serbia won the first three editions of the competition, from 2009 through 2011, and are still the record-holders for the highest number of European League gold medals.
Czech Republic claimed the 2019 title and became the only other team to have topped the podium more than once. The women’s competition is organized following the same competition system as the men’s own.
