Overview

After having lost the first #CLVolleyM 2020 match at the hands of BERLIN Recycling Volleys today's home team ACH Volley LJUBLJANA hope to get the first points of the campaign. This will not be an easy task, because opponents Kuzbass KEMEROVO had a compelling 3-0 win over Russian compatriots Fakel NOVY URENGOY.

KEMEROVO head coach Gheorghe Cretu can rely on a broad attacking line, all of his attackers being able to score at any given moment. LJUBLJANA mostly build their attack around Božidar Vućićević, who managed to score 15 against BERLIN.

Who will win this one?

Match Report

LJUBLJANA win marathon match against KEMEROVO

Article 11 December 2019

This match had everything in it, great battles, a comeback and overtime in the fifth set. ACH Volley LJUBLJANA came into this match carrying a 3-0 loss against BERLIN, but nothing on court showed that they suffered from this setback. From the first moment on Kuzbass KEMEROVO were under siege of opposite Božidar Vućićević and his teammates. KEMEROVO were hoping to build on their 3-0 win over Fakel last week, but were treated to a match played on a knife edge.

The almost 2,500 present in Ljubljana witnessed something wonderful, their team reaching the 2-0 lead within the hour. But KEMEROVO had some cards up their sleeves, Anton Karpukhov and Yaroslav Podlesnykh brought the Russian back on equal terms.

The fifth set is where Božidar Vućićević again made the difference for his team, scoring 8 of their points. Match point proved to be his 36th point of the match and it brought ACH Volley their first victory in the 2020 CEV Champions League Volley season.

Jan Pokeršnik, ACH Volley LJUBLJANA: "Tough game today, but luckily we managed to win. We left our heart on the court. It's a shame we didn't win the third and fourth set, we were so close, but we didn't serve and receive so good as in the first two. The Russians found their game and moved us further from the net. Still, here are two big points, that nobody expected, but us players and the whole team we believed in the victory."

Matija Pleško, head coach ACH Volley LJUBLJANA: "Sets were more or less on the difference, which could go in other directions or it could be 3-0. Statistically we were pretty close in all aspects, but we were a bit better in reception, which made it possible for our setter to play his game and we were a big threat to them until the end."
