Zaksa KEDZIERZYN-KOZLE v Knack ROESELARE

Article 28 January 2020

The Polish champions are fighting for all this season - they are focused on the crown in the national league, but also want to show their strenght in the Champions League. Coach Nikola Grbic's team had to play against Knack Roeselare without their main opposite, Lukasz Kaczmarek who is slowly coming back to the training.

The first set was definitely under ZAKSA's control. Simone Parodi took the responsibility in spike and showed his great expierence on court. Guests from Belgium could not find a way to catch the level of their opponents. In the next part Roeselare started more confidently, gainde four-points advantage at 8-4, but then the hosts got back to the game, reduced the difference to two points at second technical time out. The good sets of Benjamin Toniutti gave his team mates the power to attack more efficiently, what effected in final 25-18 for Kedzierzyn.

Last set was similar to the opening part. Polish team used well all their strenghts and found the weakest points of Knack. Parodi proved his worth in this match and was chosen as the best player of the game, with 11 points on his account. Arpad Baroti scored one point more, but Italian outside-spiker played also brilliant in reception. At this stage reigning champions of Poland have secured their spot in the next round of CLVolleyM.

Piotr Lukasik, outside-spiker of ZAKSA Kedzierzyn Kozle: I waited for the match in the Champions League and I am glad that I could come into the game and help my team win. We expected more resistance from the Belgians, but we all managed to play at a good level and present pretty good performance tonight.

Steven Vanmedegael, head coach of Knack Roeselare: We were unnecessarily scared of a dangerous rival at the beginning of the match and did not use our chances in the second part. Such an experienced team as ZAKSA does not forgive weaknesses and therefore we have not won even a set. Nevertheless, I don't blame my players because they fought to the end for every precious point
