    PERUGIA take a big step towards the semis

    PERUGIA have proven to be the better group winner in Russia on Wednesday. They have beaten Fakel NOVY URENGOY 3-1. With this result PERUGIA remain unbeaten in the 2020 Champions League and have a leg up in the return match to be played next week in Italy.

    The big man of the first two sets was Aleksandar Atanasijevic with 13 points to his name. Not even two consecutive killblocks of Dmitrii Volkov could prevent PERUGIA from taking a 2-0 lead. Kristian Padar led his side Fakel to victory in the third set. They couldn't get any closer though, their own errors in the fourth (11) made it impossible to draw level.

    The match top scorer was Krisztian Padar with 21. PERUGIA had five players with more than twelve points.

    Camillo Placi, head coach of Fakel NOVY URENGOY: “I'm half satisfied. If we added a little bit of our attention and focus, we could extend this game. We are glad that we made Perugia play at the maximum. This team is assembled to win everything. We are also happy that we played at the same level and only in certain moments did not have enough experience, which Perugia has in abundance.”

    Oleg Plotnytskyi, outside spiker of Sir Sicoma Monini PERUGIA: “A trip to Novy Urengoy is the farthest trip of the season. This was unusual for us, 4 hours of time difference. We adapted hard, the game was not easy. But fortunately, we managed to play as planned. Everyone gave 100%. Fakel is a very good team, and you can 't play with them in a relaxed way, because they can immediately punish you.”

    Marko Podrascanin, MVP, middle blocker of Sir Sicoma Monini PERUGIA: “It was a great match. I believe that Egor Kliuka was not enough for the Fakel. Next Tuesday we will have the second leg in Perugia and we hope to see it there.” 

    Igor Kolodinskiy, captain of Fakel NOVY URENGOY: "The game today was good, although the beginning was not very. Our third set turned out to be excellent, we played very cleanly. This is the kind of volleyball the Fakel should play. We ruled out all our mistakes, played very well on the block and in defense, these are exactly the elements that we are famous for."

    "Unfortunately, it was not possible to transfer the game to the fifth set. Now we will try to practice fruitfully before the second game and show our maximum already in Italy."
