    Vakifbank ready to take it all

    Be it as pool winners or as one of the best three runners-up, Turkey’s VakifBank Istanbul are already through to the last eight. They lead the Pool B table on 4-1 and 12 points before hosting third-placed Lokomotiv Kaliningrad Region of Russia, who have lost all chances of advancing, at 19:30 local time. On the first match in Russia, VakifBank neede five sets to the victory home, so today they want to keep focus from start till the end.

    Giovanni Guiddetti, head coach of VakifBank Istanbul: "This is the last match of the pool stage and we are in first place. We want to finish in first place as well. This match is very important for us. We have to win and we want to win, because we want to keep this good atmosphere in our gym, as we had last time. I hope that our fans will support us as they did before, against the team from Maribor and against Fenerbahce."

    Melis Gurkaynak, captain of VakifBank Istanbul: "Since it is the last game we will play in the pool, it is very important for us.  We want to finish the pool stage in first place. We won the first game against Lokomotiv 3-2. This time we want to win by a clearer score."

    Without any loss, VakifBank Istanbul advanced to the quarterfinals of #CLVolleyW. They achieved it for 11th time in a row and as it match showed - they are ready for more. Lokomotiv Kaliningrad had not much to say on the Turkish court, the hosts were in a very good shape tonight.

    Russian team started good, they pushed VakifBank from the beginning, but home team found quickly their rhythm. On the second technical time out coach Giovanni Guidetti's players led 16-14. Thanks to fantastic performance of Gabriela Guimaraes, who scored 7 points all in the first set and three by block, her team won the first part.

    In the second they did not let Lokomotiv to spread their wings even for a short moment. Coach Andrei Voronkov did three substitution, but it did not give his team a lot. VakifBank were unstoppable on their winning path. The third set was a bit better for Kaliningrad, but they could not find a way how to stop Guimaraes and Isabelle Haak. Maja Ognjenovic set the balls perfectly to their wings and also performed very well in serve - she scored three aces. MVP of the match was chosen Gabi Guimaraes, but the top scorer title went to Haak, who scored 19 points.

    Giovanni Guidetti, head coach of VakifBank Istabul: In the first set Kaliningrad played without any error. We did also pretty good. Maybe tonight was the best match of the season so far. I want to congratulate my players, because the performance was on very high level volleyball today. 

    Maja Ognjenovic, setter of VakifBank Istanbul: In first set it was maybe a little bit tough and than we found our way to play good. Today our sideout and reception was on high level. We were about 70%, which is really high. Our attackers were really able to score from any possition. It was our target to be in the first place in the group so we should be happy for that. And we are waiting to see who will be our opponent in the quarterfinals. We are improving as a team, this is makes us really happy. We are focused on our targets in all competitions. We are VakifBank one of the best club in the world and Europe. We are always on the top and we are always working to stay on the top.

    Ekaterina Orlova, middle-blocker of Lokomotiv Kaliningrad : For us it was a debut in CEV Champions League and we finished all our games. This game was not perfect but I said before it was a debut. I hope next season we will show something else.
