Match Report

Estonia start good in the second tournament

Article

Estonia disappointed Spain at the start of the second tournament in Pool A of the Golden #EuroLeagueM. On Friday, the players around head coach Cedric Enard came back after losing the first set. This is the fourth consecutive victory for the Estonian players who, with 11 points, top the charts in the current standing in the group. 11 aces and better performance on the attack, became the key to the success.

- Spain entered much better in the game, storming out for a 10-3. However, with the first set unfolding, Estonia got a wake-up call and got closer to the result. It wasn't enough for winning this part, but it helped a lot for the improved Estonian play in the second set when they tied the score.
- Spanish leader in the past games, Alberto Colito, was struggling to find his game in the third set (recording some errors on the serving line and on attack).
- Experienced Oliver Venno took things in his hands in the last set, and supported by his teammates, helped a lot for the final victory. Venno finished as top scorer with 26 points to his name.

“In the beginning, I was little bit worried, because we had started bad, we were struggling on the reception. However, we found back our rhythm in the end of the first set, and then in second, third and fourth sets, the guys showed better performance in all the elements. I need to reflect on why we started worse in the first set, maybe it was the pressure of the first game of the second tournament.”
Cedric Enard,
Head coach of Estonia

"Congratulations to Estonia. We did not play good, we had many problems in reception and in organising the attack. We have to forget this match very quickly”.
Ricardo Maldonado,
Head coach of Spain
