Men’s MEVZA League - Calcit KAMNIK defeat Mladost ZAGREB to move up to third place

In the men’s MEVZA League, OK Calcit KAMNIK secured three very important points in the race for a Final Four spot on Saturday. The Slovenian team needed 94 minutes to celebrate a 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-21, 25-14) win over HAOK Mladost ZAGREB on home soil. Tommi Siirilä and Jan Klobučar top scored for the hosts with 12 and 11 points, respectively, while Kruno Nikačević (13) and Ivan Zeljković (12) were the best scorers for the away side.

As a result, OK Calcit KAMNIK moved up to third place in the current standing now three points ahead of the Croatian reigning national champions and eight points behind second-placed OK Merkur MARIBOR. Table leaders ACH Volley LJUBLJANA and hosts SK Zadruga AICH/DOB are already confirmed as Final Four participants.

“We were leading in the second set as well and then we let it go for a moment but after all, we delivered a solid performance. We paid a lot of attention to their opposite Boris Buša and that was a key that got us the win.”

A COVID-19 outbreak has resulted in the postponement of Sunday’s MEVZA League match TJ Spartak MYJAVA (SVK) vs. SK Zadruga AICH/DOB (AUT). Therefore, the men’s competition will continue on Monday, when the still unbeaten defending champions ACH Volley LJUBLJANA (SLO) will be hosting UVC Holding GRAZ (AUT).
