The final stage of the Italian Snow Volleyball championship was held this past weekend in Plan de Corones, a location with a rich history when it comes to the delivery of both domestic and international Snow Volleyball competitions. SSV Pallavolo Brunico and the Italian Volleyball Federation (FIPAV) had joined forces to deliver the final stop of the national tour that had started in early February in Lorica, southern Italy.
In the women’s competition, the young home team comprising of Anja and Lea Burgmann, Sarah Riva and Julia Mairhofer prevailed against the more experienced Cristiana Parenzan, Federica Tonon, and their Czech-born partner Anna Dostalova in a match where the local favourites showed more stamina and composure.
Lea Burgmann“We are happy for our success here in our home mountains. We are at ease on the snow; Snow Volleyball is a discipline that allows you to play outdoors in fantastic natural environments. I thank my teammates for this victory.”
In the men’s event, things did not go any differently with local heroes Theo Hanni, Peter Seeber, Michael Burgmann, and Thomas Berger on a class of their own as they edged Enrico Lupatelli, Michele Bennato, Gaetano Vespero and Atef Adel in the final, thereby confirming themselves as the best team in Italy and securing a third consecutive triumph for SSV Volleyball Brunico.
Peter Seeber“We confirmed ourselves as national champions and this obviously makes us happy. I believe that we showed much consistency; the audience was all for us, so it was easier. We had fun, these were two good days of sport, and now we will return to Volleyball for our next commitments.”
