This year’s #EuroBeachVolleyU18 bronze medal winners Timo Hammarberg and Tim Berger have left Austria to travel to Thailand where they are due to contest the U19 World Championship.

“This world championship for players born in 2002 and younger will serve as preparation for the next U19 World Championship, which will take place next year, if the pandemic allows it. The boys should therefore enjoy the experience at this tournament against older opponents in order to be able to capitalise on it next year. For Phuket, I wish that they can make it through their pool and execute what we have practiced during our training sessions.”

Back in early September, Hammarberg and Berger (both born in 2004) sensationally claimed the bronze medal at the U18 European Championship held in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Unfortunately, their coach Robert Nowotny is not travelling to Thailand as well, since he is yet to recover from a coronavirus infection.

Austrian Beach Volleyball legend Clemens Doppler, a former European champion and silver medal winner at the World Championship in 2017, will travel with the youngsters instead. Timo and Tim could not ask for a better mentor as they chase further glory in Asia. They are due to play their first match in Phuket on Tuesday, December 7.
