Avarca de MENORCA make up for sluggish start to record home win

On Wednesday night, Spain’s Avarca de MENORCA delivered at home, winning the first leg of their CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup 2027 Round of 64 tie.

The visiting team, Lithuania’s KAUNAS VDU, started the match very strongly, taking advantage of a sluggish opening from the hosts to claim the first set 25-16 – an early wake-up call for the crowd at the Ciutadella arena.

However, the Menorcan side responded emphatically, dominating the Lithuanians from start to finish in the subsequent sets to secure a clear 3-1 victory (16-25, 25-15, 25-15, 25-17). Marcella Amaral Antunes scored the most points for the winners (15) well supported by Jimena Fernandez (12) and Paula Gürsching (11).

Nevertheless, the tie remains wide open, with everything set to be decided in Kaunas next week where Avarca de MENORCA will require another victory to progress to the next round.
