The ‘history’ of Slovenian Volleyball started after independence with their first national championship and cup competition contested in the 1991/1992 season. To help the sport grow further, make it more popular, and follow other top European countries, the Volleyball Federation of Slovenia decided to organise a third club competition for the 2026/2027 season: the first-ever Slovenian Supercup, which took place on October 17 at the Maksa Pečar Hall in the capital city of Ljubljana.

GEN-I Volley stunned the reigning national champions to claim the women's title

“Adding a third club competition under the umbrella of the Volleyball Federation of Slovenia (OZS) is a new step to help us grow and further develop Volleyball in Slovenia. Following other European countries that have been successfully organising these events for years, we decided to add the Supercup to our calendar. This gave the best teams and Volleyball fans an opportunity to start the season in a brand-new way. We wanted to bring excitement right at the start of the season and help fans focus on club games after a successful summer for our national teams,” explained OZS Secretary General Gregor Humerca.

Women’s Final: GEN-I Volley win historic trophy

The Supercup started with a clash between GEN-I Volley, the team that had finished second in the 2025/2026 Slovenian Cup, and the reigning Slovenian champions and Cup winners, OTP banka Branik, who entered as favourites. However, GEN-I Volley came out strong against their opponents and secured a comprehensive 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-21) victory to take home the historic trophy. Middle blocker Naja Kukman scored 16 points for the winners, and Thuany Bardin added 13. For Maribor, Maša Mlinar contributed 14 points.

“The feelings are truly incredible! I think our season could not have started any better; the hard work of the last two and a half months has completely paid off. Focus was our key to success – even when we trailed, we kept our composure.”

“Congratulations to Gen-I Volley on a well-deserved victory. In the key moments, we simply lacked focus. We allowed ourselves too many unforced errors that immediately got punished.”

Men’s Final: ACH Volley takes the gold

In the men’s final, ACH Volley LJUBLJANA faced Panvita Pomgrad from Murska Sobota in a rematch of the 2025/2026 Slovenian Cup final. The reigning Slovenian champions and Cup winners from Ljubljana started strong, but Panvita pushed back and took the second set, before losing their rhythm late in the third. ACH Volley ultimately secured a 3-1 (25-16, 23-25, 25-21, 25-17) victory to win the first men’s Supercup title.
Rok Bračko scored 13 points for the team from Ljubljana, while his teammates Marko Ivović and Alen Šket each collected 11 points. For Panvita Pomgrad, Shay Spadaro and Mark Frazier both ended the match with 16 points.

“We saw that nothing is taken for granted and that everyone is highly motivated when playing against us. We raised our level of play when it was most necessary, and the opponent could not maintain their peak level throughout the entire match, which allowed us to claim the victory.”
