Finland join Oranjes in #EuroLeagueM grand finale
News
Finland joined the Netherlands in the final of the #EuroLeagueM after recording a second 3-1 victory over Denmark in as many semi-final matches with their Nordic neighbours. This means that the finale of the CEV Volleyball European League 2026 will feature the two teams that had finished at the top of the charts following completion of the League Round. The Finns – winners of the European Golden League last year – will host the first match, with the return due to follow on July 11 or 12 in The Hague.
As with the previous match last Sunday in Odense, Finland had to fight their way back from losing the opening set (22-25), but they slowly but surely regained full control by sweeping the next three (25-22, 25-19, 25-22) much to the delight of a sold-out AGCO Power Arena in Nokia, where more than 2,000 fans had come together. If Mads Kyed Jensen top scored for Denmark with 21 points, Veikka Lindqvist responded with 20 for the Finns – well supported by Luka and Nooa Marttila who registered 12 and 19, respectively. Finland out-blocked Denmark seven to four and chipped in with nine aces to improve their record against Denmark to 34 wins in 40 matches, as their setter Fedor Ivanov registered 100 caps with the national team.
The final with the Netherlands will see two sides contesting not only the European League title – but also a spot in next year’s Volleyball Nations League (VNL) as they both seek to further improve their respective position in the World Ranking.
