EuroBeachVolley participants to appear in Futures in Baden and Montpellier

Six teams that competed at last week’s 2022 CEV EuroBeachVolley in Munich will be back on the court soon as the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour returns to Europe with Futures events in Baden, Austria, and Montpellier, France.

Seidl and Waller are ready to play at home after a fifth-place finish in Munich

All six teams that were last week in Munich will be seen at the Weilburgpark, in Baden, where 56 duos (28 in each gender) from 24 countries will be in action from Wednesday to Sunday. Europe will be represented by teams from Austria (10), Germany (4), Norway (4), Italy (3), Slovakia (3), the Czech Republic (2), Finland (2), Hungary (2), Lithuania (2), the Netherlands (2), Scotland (2), Spain (2), Ukraine (2), Denmark, Estonia, Slovenia and Switzerland.

Three of the four men’s teams that represented Austria at the EuroBeachVolley will try to win the title at home this week. Robin Seidl and Philipp Waller, who were fifth in Munich, Julia Hörl and Alexander Horst, who were also fifth, and Alexander Huber and Christoph Dressler, who finished 17th, are ranked first, second and third heading into the tournament in the Austrian city. A fourth home team, the one of Clemens Doppler and Thomas Kunert, is also among the 12 duos guaranteed in the main draw in Baden.

In the women’s tournament, top-seeded Austrians Katharina Schützenhöfer and Lena Plesiutschnig are one of the three teams that appeared in the EuroBeachVolley – they were 17th in Munich. The Ukrainian twins Inna and Iryna Makhno and the Danish youngsters Sofia Bisgaard and Clara Windeleff both finished ninth at the continental event and are seeded second and fifth in Baden. Ukrainian Valentyna Davidova, who took 25th in the EuroBeachVolley with Diana Lunina, will compete this week with Ievgeniia Baieva.

In Montpellier, the men-only tournament will feature 28 teams from 16 nations. As many as 23 of these duos are from Europe – six from France, four from Italy, two from Austria, the Netherlands and Spain and one from the Czech Republic, Finland, Israel, Monaco, Norway, Serbia and Switzerland.

After stepping up to pair with Krou in Munich, Aye will resume his partnership with his brother Calvin

French blocker Quincy Aye is the only player to have appeared in the EuroBeachVolley to play in Montpellier this week. The 27-year-old lefty finished 17th with Youssef Krou and will this week return to his regular partner and brother Calvin.

The two are one of four French duos guaranteed in the main draw, alongside Liam Patte and Timothée Platre, reigning U19 world champions Arthur Canet and Téo Rotar and wildcards Tom Altwies and Elouan Chouikh-Barbez.

Both events begin with the qualifiers on Wednesday, where four teams will secure the final main draw spots. The women’s gold medal match in Baden will be played on Saturday while the men’s finals in both locations are scheduled for Sunday.
