Teams from Finland, Estonia, Austria and France have reached the women’s quarterfinals at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Futures in Klaipeda, Lithuania.

The second day of the tournament in the Baltic country did not spoil the players with good weather, but instead provided the spectators with intense matches and positive vibes.

After completion of the qualification round on Thursday, women’s teams contested the pool phase, with those finishing on top of the groups securing their spot in the quarterfinals. In Pool A, the highest ranked Lithuanian team Erika Kliokmanaitė and Monika Paulikienė, previously known as Povilaityte, lost a very close match to their Estonian neighbours Heleene Hollas/Liisa Soomets (20-22, 21-18, 12-15). Despite the home side’s eventual loss, the spectators truly enjoyed such a dramatic game. The Estonians eventually claimed first place in the pool to move on straight to the quarterfinals.

In Pool B, Finland’s Anniina Parkkinen/Wilhelmiina Prihti climbed to the top of the group after celebrating two victories against Swiss duo Melina Hübscher/Janick Schaltegger and Tjasa Kotnik/Tajda Lovsin from Slovenia, thus leaving their opponents to fight in the Round of 12.

Austrian sisters Dorina Klinger/Ronja Klinger topped Pool C following victories over third-seeded Lithuanians Ieva Vasiliauskaite/Urte Andriukaityte and USA’s Molly Turner/Jessica Gaffney.

In Pool D, Frenchwomen Elsa Descamps/Marine Kinna showed a solid performance to edge their opponents from Canada and Lithuania.

The men’s tournament started with the first matches of the pool phase, which is due to continue on Saturday along with the play-off phase of the women’s competition.
