Vienna, Austria, February 11, 2021. The CEV EuroBeachVolley 2021 will be a truly spectacular event and celebration of the sport right in the heart of Vienna, with the continental flagship competition due to run from August 11 to 15 at a purpose-built stadium on the grounds of the Vienna Ice Skating Club!

The CEV and the local organisers revealed details of the Beach Volleyball highlight of the year 2021 during a press conference attended by a large number of media at the InterContinental Hotel in Vienna.

“In times as challenging as those we are currently living in, it makes me especially proud to share more detailed plans for the delivery of a major event such as EuroBeachVolley 2021. I am confident that ACTS have developed a concept that will combine the sort of positive energy, great feeling and event experience that we all associate with Beach Volleyball together with the safety of all involved,” said CEV President Aleksandar Boričić. “EuroBeachVolley 2021 in Vienna will send out a message of hope and help us inspire the next generation of elite Beach Volleyball players. I wish to thank the local and national authorities for all their unwavering support – which shows they understand that sport and an event such as EuroBeachVolley can play a leading role in the return to some sort of normalcy after the pandemic.”

Austria’s Vice Chancellor and Minister for Arts, Culture, the Civil Service and Sport, Werner Kogler, did not hide his passion for Beach Volleyball. “It is truly remarkable that EuroBeachVolley is already the fourth major Beach Volleyball event to take place in our country over the last eight years,” he said. “This shows that Beach Volleyball and Austria are inseparable and I am looking forward to the return of such a major competition to Vienna.”

“For sporting events to go ahead in pandemic times, we need ideas and innovative concepts,” added Peter Hacker, Vienna’s City Councillor for Sports. “This will be the case with this championship and you can be sure you will feel goose bumps when action time comes.”

Hannes Jagerhofer and ACTS disclosed their revolutionary concept for a truly special event in the heart of Vienna. The stadium will host up to 2,150 fans with the ‘sandbox’ consisting of three levels. The first digital photos of the venue already account for something truly imposing and impressive whose construction will take into account the safety and security of all involved. “It is only with the support of the Federal Government, the City of Vienna and long-term partners such as A1 that an event of this magnitude can take place. They all accepted with much enthusiasm the idea of delivering some sort of an Olympic revenge shortly after completion of the Tokyo Olympics,” Jagerhofer said.

Austria’s Beach Volleyball family is already looking forward to such a special opportunity to play for continental honours on home soil. Clemens Doppler and Alexander Horst will be trying to repeat their amazing run from the 2017 World Championships held in Vienna, when they secured a historic silver medal losing only to Brazil’s Evandro Gonçalves and André Loyola in the final.
