Teams from Hungary and Austria claim top honours at MEVZA Beach Volleyball Club Championships

This past weekend, Bratislava played host to an exhilarating display of athleticism and skill as the second edition of the MEVZA Beach Volleyball Club Championships unfolded in the capital city of Slovakia. Teams from across Central Europe descended upon the sandy courts, eager to stake their claim to victory in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

In the men’s division, the competition was fierce as teams from Austria, Croatia, Czechia, and Slovenia battled it out for top honours. Notable contenders included the Aloha BeachVolleyball Club Wörthersee from Austria, Kop Vukovar from Croatia, and SD Ludus from Slovenia. Representing the host nation, Slovakia, with unwavering determination were BVC Bratislava and BVC Patronka, seeking to defend their home turf with pride.

Meanwhile, in the women’s division, teams from Austria, Czechia, Hungary, and Slovenia showcased their prowess on the sand. Among them were Bergstrand Beachvolleyball and Beachvolleyball Club Wien from Austria, alongside EDRA from Hungary and SD Ludus from Slovenia. Again, BVC Bratislava and BVC Patronka proudly represented Slovakia, aiming to leave a lasting impression on their home soil.

As the tournament unfolded, spectators were treated to thrilling matches and impressive displays of athleticism. In the women’s division, EDRA from Hungary emerged victorious, defeating BVC Patronka from Slovakia in a final showdown that ended with a score of 2-0. Claiming the bronze medal was SD Ludus from Slovenia, who overcame Beachvolleyball Club Wien from Austria in a hard-fought battle, securing victory with a score of 2-1.

In the men’s division, it was Aloha Beachvolleyball Club Wörthersee from Austria who triumphed, demonstrating their skill and tenacity by defeating Prague Beach Team from Czechia 2-0. Taking home the bronze medal was SD Ludus from Slovenia, who outperformed BVC Patronka from Slovakia in a closely contested match, ultimately prevailing by 2-1. 

Overall, the MEVZA event in Bratislava showcased some of the finest talents from across the region, highlighting the growing popularity and competitiveness of the sport. As the sun set on three days of thrilling competition, participants and spectators alike departed with memories of exhilarating matches and a renewed appreciation for the beauty of Beach Volleyball.
