The Beach Pro Tour Futures Madrid 2026 men’s competition has come to an end at the Parque Deportivo Puerta de Hierro in the neighbourhood of Aravaca in the Spanish capital. The grand finale coincided with the triumph of Edgars Točs and Gustavs Auziņš representing Latvia.
Over the course of the morning, the sand witnessed two nerve-wracking semi-finals. In the first one, the Latvian representatives, Edgars Točs and Gustavs Auziņš, beat the Hungarian pair of Bence Tari and Lukas Niemeier. The Hungarians started the match on top, but the Latvians were quick to turn it around over the next two sets. It was a neck-to-neck match in which both teams showcased great level of performance.
After that, the second semi-final saw Tom Sonneville and Quinten Groenewold from the Netherlands battle it out on the court against Estonia’s Mart Tiisaar and Dimitriy Korotkov. The Estonians quickly set the rhythm of the match in its first set. Even though the Dutch pair put all the efforts to stop them under the pouring rain, the Estonians ended up winning the ticket to the final thanks to an astonishing block play.
In the afternoon, it was time for the third place match between The Netherlands and Hungary. The promising young pairs had a very upbeat encounter, with each player showcasing powerful aces and striking blocks. The Dutch started the match strong and won the first set. However, the Hungarians tried their luck in the second and put up a fight. Still, it was not enough to stop Sonneville and Groenewold from taking bronze.
The grand finale saw Točs/Auziņš from Latvia against Tiisaar/Korotkov from Estonia fight it out on the sand for gold. The first set was all for the Latvians: everything was working just fine for the pair. In the end, they closed it 21-11. However, the Estonians did not have luck on their side this time. An injury in Mart Tiisaar’s back forced the Baltic pair to withdraw from the match, giving the victory to Točs/Auziņš.
Overall, the event counted on 300 volunteers throughout its four days of duration, and featured 28 participating pairs from almost 20 countries from Europe and further beyond. Next week will see the women’s event from Thursday to Sunday. But first, the CEV Nations Cup will host one of its preliminary rounds in Madrid on Tuesday and Wednesday.
