The first leg of the Challenge Cup Men’s final took place tonight, delivering an exciting battle between Bogdanka LUK Lublin and Cucine Lube Civitanova. In front of a passionate home crowd, Lublin secured an important 3-1 victory (25-20, 22-25, 25-18, 26-24), taking a significant step toward the championship title.
The Polish side started the match strong, taking control of the first set with a dominant 25-20 performance. Their aggressive attack and well-organized defense limited Civitanova’s scoring opportunities, allowing Lublin to dictate the tempo early on. However, Civitanova responded in the second set, showing their resilience and leveling the match with a hard-fought 25-22 win.
In the third set, Lublin reasserted their dominance, overpowering their Italian opponents with a commanding 25-18 victory. Their efficiency in both attack and defense proved crucial as they regained control of the match. The fourth set turned into a nail-biting battle, with both teams fighting hard to gain the advantage. Civitanova pushed Lublin to their limits, but the Polish team held their nerve, clinching the set 26-24 to seal a crucial first-leg win.
The MVP of the match was Wilfredo Leon Venero, who delivered an exceptional all-around performance for Lublin. He finished the game with 22 points, a 46% spike success rate, six aces, and three kill blocks.
With this win, Bogdanka LUK Lublin now has the advantage heading into the second leg, which will take place next Wednesday. However, Civitanova remains a formidable opponent with the experience and talent to overturn the result. They will need to focus on improving their consistency and limiting Lublin’s service pressure if they want to keep their championship hopes alive.
