The Spanish national league finished an intense season this past weekend, with CV Guaguas triumphing in the final of the Superliga Masculina against Grupo Herce SORIA for the second year in a row. Seven days earlier, CV Hidramar GRAN CANARIA had retained the women’s title after beating Avarca de MENORCA in the fight for gold in the Liga Iberdrola. Therefore, the two teams from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria have further extended their dominance in Spanish Volleyball.

CV Guaguas have capped a terrific season with their third national league title in four years

The players of CV Guaguas celebrated their third league title in the last four years. CV Guaguas triumphed on Saturday for the third time in the Superliga Masculina since their return to the elite division only four seasons ago. The Canary team defeated Grupo Herce SORIA in the final series of the championship. The group coached by Sergio Miguel Camarero completed an immaculate season, winning the Copa de SM El Rey, the Spanish Supercup and the first edition of the Iberian Cup. Miguel Ángel de Amo, setter of CV Guaguas, was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the final for his outstanding contribution throughout the knockout stage. Earlier this year, Guaguas had sensationally reached the quarterfinals of the elite CEV Champions League Volley, losing there only to Türkiye’s Ziraat Bank ANKARA.

CV Hidramar have retained their women's national league title

CV Hidramar GRAN CANARIA were crowned as the winners of the women’s national league for the second consecutive year. This achievement, combined with the victory of CV Guaguas in the men’s league, completed the total domination of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in Spanish Volleyball. Francisco Carballo’s players defeated Avarca de MENORCA in a thrilling battle. Cuban outside hitter Sulian Matienzo was awarded as the MVP of the final, a feat she had achieved the previous year as well, leading her team to victory and preventing the rivals from forcing a fifth and final game.
