The Italian domination in the European club tournaments continues, as on Wednesday, the team of Reale Mutua Fenera CHIERI'76 claimed the title at the CEV Volleyball Cup 2024 - Women.

The team, under the guidance of head coach Giulio Cesare Bregoli, disappointed again their rivals from the Viteos NEUCHATEL UC (SUI) as in the second final between the two teams, seized a 3-1 win victory. After the straight-sets win in the home match, the Italians needed only two sets to secure lifting the trophy, and the night belonged to them.

CHIERI achieved another milestone as by winning the 2024 #CEVCupW, they put another European trophy in their pockets, after winning the 2023 #CEVChallengeCupW.

Determined, the Italians did so with no problems, emerging victorious from the first set by 25-9. Supported by almost 4000 fans at Palazzetto dello Sport Gianni Asti in Turin, the home side stormed out for in the opener with seven winning spikes (to two), five kill blocks (to zero) and five aces (to zero).

Chieri kept the level in the second set as well, as six kill blocks turned out to be their key to the success in this part while the Swiss couldn’t record a point from this element. The players, coached by Lauren Bertolacci, were getting into rhythm with 12 winning spikes (to nine). However, it was late for this “wake-up call” - and Chieri started celebrating after emerging victorious from the second set.

The guests showed they weren’t ready to lose in straight sets, winning the third one, seizing their chances on their opponents’ errors (eight to five).

The home heroines didn’t want to postpone any more lifting the trophy and came back stronger in the last, fourth set. Leaving no chances to their opponents, they closed the set and the match at 25-13, proving better on all counts: 11 to six winning spikes, three to zero kill blocks, three to zero aces.

Kaja Grobelna who topped the charts with 16 points to her name (60% exc. in attack, one kill block) was beyond happy about winning the first place.

“It was an incredible night. We will never forget it. I am so proud of my team. We are honoured to play in front of this amazing crowd.”
