Sofia / Milan - The excitement for CEV Enel EuroVolley 2026 reached a fever pitch this week as iconic countdown clocks were officially unveiled in two major host cities - Sofia, Bulgaria, and Milan, Italy.
With just days remaining until the opening serves of Europe’s premier Volleyball showpiece, public plazas in both cities were transformed into focal points of celebration, signaling that Europe’s top 24 national teams are ready to collide.
Sofia ready to spark national pride
In the heart of Bulgaria, a custom countdown installation featuring the official EuroVolley match ball was unveiled at the historic Sveta Nedelya Square in Sofia. The clock is set to tick down to September 9 at 19:00 local time, when the Bulgarian national team steps onto the court against North Macedonia at the Arena 8888 Sofia.
The ceremony gathered key figures including Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev, Bulgarian Volleyball Federation President Lyubomir Ganev, Men's National Team Head Coach Gianlorenzo Blengini, and Team Captain Alex Grozdanov.

"We witnessed unprecedented ticket demand, with matches selling out in less than 24 hours. The atmosphere will be electric, and we know our team will leave their heart and soul on the court," Ganev stated.
For team captain Alex Grozdanov, playing in front of 12,500 passionate home fans is a dream 14 years in the making.

Adding to the tournament’s community reach, the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation launched an initiative bringing Volleyball into six major public parks across Sofia from September 8 to 26. Daily open-air clinics and fan activities will allow residents of all ages to engage with the sport beyond the main arena.
Milan prepares for the Grand Finale
Meanwhile, in Italy, the official Countdown Clock was illuminated inside the iconic Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan. The clock marks the countdown to the tournament’s crowning moments: the EuroVolley Semifinals and Finals taking place on September 25-26 at the legendary Unipol Forum in Assago.
The Italian leg of EuroVolley 2026 begins on September 10 with an outdoor spectacle at Piazza del Plebiscito in Naples, where the reigning World Champions, Italy, will face Sweden. The tournament will then journey through Modena and Turin before reaching its climax in Milan.
High-profile dignitaries attended the Milan unveiling, including Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala, Lombardy Region President Attilio Fontana, and FIPAV President Giuseppe Manfredi, alongside Olympic silver medalist and event ambassador Matteo Piano.
