A dream come true for Finland against Serbia, Denmark outclass Estonia

In the second match of Day 4 of Pool C action in Finland, the "Brothers" made history with their first win in straight sets (25-19, 25-21, 25-23) against Serbia since 2009 at CEV Enel EuroVolley Men. In the first match of the day, Denmark proved again that yesterday's win over the Netherlands was not casual. The Danish team won 3-0 (28-26, 25-22, 25-16) against Estonia to take their second win a row. 

Finland vs Serbia 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-23) 

For the record, Finland had lost the last five competitive matches against Serbia in straight sets. But it was before September 13, 2026 because today the story changed, since in Tampere, for the second match of day 4, the local heroes found the magical chemistry to win, in straight sets, against one of the most decorated teams in Volleyball. And it's not all, because it signed a 13-match winning streak for Finland, with their last defeat against Belgium almost one year ago.

In the first set, Serbian Drazen Luburic and hometown favourite Joonas Jokela, both of them blond, both with beard and ponytails, but from different teams, were among the best scorers for their team at the end (Luburic with three points, Jokela with nine). It was Finland leading the way at the beginning (6-3, 10-7), then Serbia cut the distance at 13-13 but after, again Jokela together with the Marttila’s brothers started to create fluid actions and Finland's advantage went up to five points at 20-15 - so the first set eventually ended in favour of the hosting team.

In the second set, Serbia started strong up to 10-6, but then it was just a show from the home side: in front of 10,929 spectators (who yesterday made sure all the merchandising of their team was sold-out) the home heroes stayed strong with blocks and spikes (three points and 65% success rate in attack) to claim also the second set 25-21. 

In the third set the Serbian team seemed to take control of the actions, after coach Cretu called to the court the first setter Aleksa Batak, instead of captain Nikola Jovovic. But it was not for too long: at 16-18 it was the Nokia Arena that created the perfect atmosphere for making the dream of their guys come true. Joonas Jokela, Nooa and Luka Marttila (19, 12 and nine points across the match) were just perfect in every moment on the court and the crowd felt it: at 20-20 all the fans carried the squad to victory to an incredible 3-0 victory that has changed forever the history of Finnish Volleyball.

Estonia vs Denmark 0-3 (26-28, 22-25, 16-25)

The match was on the court but also on the stages of Nokia Arena, which was quite full (6,467 total) of both Estonian and Danish fans who genuinely supported their teams. The first set was really balanced, with no team leading (8-11, 17-15) for most of the time and it was the preview of what came at the end: tie at 24-24 and then point on point especially between Tobias Kjaer from Denmark and Timo Lohmus from Estonia. At the end it was Denmark, with a robust spike from Kjaer and an ace from Mads Jensen to take the first set. 

The second set seemed easier for the players in red and white jerseys: from the initial 10-10 Denmark’s hitters started to score with no pressure from the opponents’ block, so for Kjaer and Madsen (at the end six and seven points, respectively) it was almost an everyday job to cruise to 19-16 and then 23-19 to reach the end of the set with a margin of three points. The energy was quite high for Denmark also in the third, where the actions were every point more and more aggressive, while the Estonians couldn’t find a way to stop their opponents. Mads Kyed Jensen scored an impressive 19 points total, including nine in the third set alone that sealed another win for Team Denmark.
