Future Volleyball stars take center stage at #EuroVolleyM in Sofia

With the high-octane CEV Enel EuroVolley 2026 Men drama of the pool phase in the books and sixteen teams preparing to kick off the high-stakes knockout stage, Arena 8888 Sofia took a momentary breather. Yet while the men’s national teams rested before the elimination battles begin, the championship floor was far from quiet - the grand arena lights dimmed, the entrance arch lit up, and a very different kind of European Volleyball story took center stage.

Through the "Volleyball at School" initiative - launched for the new academic year alongside Allianz Bulgaria - the official EuroVolley court belonged to kids. Finalists from the 2025/26 School Games alongside youth from local family-type residential centers stepped directly into the shoes of their heroes.

Walking out under the dramatic arena light show and following the exact match-day protocol usually reserved for top international athletes, student teams from across Sofia - including 135th, 12th, 109th, and 119th schools - experienced the pure, unfiltered rush of playing on the biggest stage in European Volleyball.

The mixed teams brought a collective energy that felt like a breath of fresh air during a tournament rest day. National team coordinator and former captain of the Bulgarian national team, Nikolay Ivanov, BFV Administrative Director Stanislav Nikolov, Allianz Bulgaria COO Andrey Alexandrov, and Sofia’s Deputy Mayor Desislava Zhelyazkova joined in the celebration, alongside players from Bulgaria's youth national teams who spent time chatting and encouraging the young athletes.

It served as a powerful reminder of why these massive tournaments matter beyond the standings: Volleyball doesn't start or end with senior championship trophies. It begins the moment a child steps onto the court, touches the ball for the first time, and discovers the community of a team.
