The home side from Latvia claimed the bronze medal – and together with all other teams finishing from second to fifth, the Latvians will continue their journey in the second round of qualifications scheduled for the spring of 2023.
“I have a great feeling. These medals and tournament are very important for us, because for the team it was a huge step on the international volleyball stage. My feelings are great, as this tournament gives a new impulse for the future. It was our beginning,” says the head coach of the Latvian national team, Daniele Mario Capriotti. “Poland were the winners this time, but anyway we have achieved a great result, as we did beat Estonia, Lithuania, and Georgia all in straight sets, and that means a lot. We are here and we are learning, and we hope in the future we will become as strong as teams like Poland and Ukraine.”
The competition ended with the awards ceremony, with Poland, Ukraine, and Latvia composing the podium. Medals and cups were presented by EEVZA President Mykhaylo Melnyk, CEV Referee Coach Stefan Hank and Latvian Volleyball Federation BoA member, Arturs Vitkovskis. The Latvian Volleyball Federation is grateful to all participants, organisers and the city of Daugavpils and hopes that all teams had a great time in Latvia.
