Sweden will be trying to retain their women’s CEV European Golden League crown on home soil when the Final Four tournament of the competition will be taking place in Ängelholm in late June (28-29) of 2025. The host city and the actual venue, Catena Arena, are somehow a fitting tribute to Swedish Volleyball stars Isabelle and Anna Haak, who took their first steps in Volleyball in Ängelholm and more specifically at the local Volleyball club ENGELHOLM VS.
Isabelle and Anna Haak“Ängelholm is home! A fantastic city to grow up in. It was there that we fell in love with Volleyball and were shaped as players in Engelholm VS. To come home with the women’s national team and step into Catena Arena is a dream come true!”
The organisation of such a high-profile competition in southern Sweden is even more relevant since Göteborg will be co-hosting the next edition of CEV EuroVolley Women only a year later. This cements the rising status of Sweden as a key Volleyball hub in Europe – much courtesy to the achievements of their superstar Isabelle Haak, the CEV Female Player of the Year 2022 and winner of the CEV Champions League Volley 2024 with Italy’s A. Carraro Imoco CONEGLIANO.
Earlier this year, Sweden secured their triumph in the latest edition of the European Golden League when they emerged victorious from the Final Four held in Ostrava where they beat hosts Czechia in the grand finale. This success secured extremely valuable ranking points as well, thereby laying the ground for Sweden’s participation in the next edition of the FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Championship scheduled for the late summer of 2025 in Thailand, a historic premiere for the Scandinavian team on the global stage.
Roko Sikirić“The opportunity to host the Golden League Final Four is not only testament to the Swedish Federation’s commitment to the growth and promotion of Volleyball but also an important step toward showcasing Sweden as a premier destination for major international Volleyball events. The connection of this event to EuroVolley 2026 presents a unique opportunity for an early promotional platform and to further energise the Swedish Volleyball community and its supporters."
“We are grateful to the CEV as well as proud and honoured to have been selected as hosts of yet another prestigious European Volleyball competition. We together with our incredible partners are excited and inspired to deliver a magnificent sports event experience for both new and already committed Volleyball fans in Sweden. The unwavering support of our partners is instrumental in making this milestone possible. Bringing the Final Four to Ängelholm also offers us the opportunity to take significant steps forward in our efforts to create even more impressive events, which is crucial as we look ahead to the 2026 European Championship on home soil,” says Annika Sjöberg, President of the Swedish Volleyball Federation.
The 2025 edition of the women’s European Golden League will get underway in late May and as in 2024, each team will contest a total of six matches across three tournaments / weekends – thereby playing at least one round before their home fans. As Final Four hosts, Sweden are automatically qualified for the event and should they finish lower than fourth at the end of the League Round, they would replace the 4th placed team in the semis.
