BERLIN Recycling Volleys - Halkbank ANKARA
- The BR Volleys have yet to win against Halkbank ANKARA. In the past 13 months, the two teams have met three times in the group stage and the winner always came from Turkey. Captain Ruben Schott and his team-mates have never been as close as they were four weeks ago in the first leg (2-3; previously 0-3 and 1-3).
BERLIN Recycling Volleys
- Last year, a marathon set (33-35 from Berlin's point of view) left the audience in the Max-Schmeling-Halle breathless.
- Nimir Abdel-Aziz is something like the personified fear opponent of the unbeaten leaders of the German Bundesliga. The men from the German capital have yet to win in five attempts against the Dutch opposite.
- The second home game of the Champions League will be played in front of Louisa Lippmann. The former German indoor national player and multiple "Volleyball Player of the Year" has made a successful start in beach volleyball. Lippmann is competing with Olympic champion Laura Ludwig for a ticket to Paris 2024 and will soon be more closely associated with the BR Volleys.
- The BR Volleys are expecting even more spectators than at the first home game against Benfica LISBOA (3-0). More than 5,000 volleyball fans will fill the "Volleyballtempel".
- After an injury break of just over a month, German international Tobias Krick is back in the line-up for the team from Berlin. The middle blocker only made a brief appearance against Lisboa on the first match day and was then ruled out for longer due to a concussion.
- Joal BANKS (head coach): "We've had a really good start to this Champions League season and yet it feels like we've let something slip despite the strength of our opponents. We certainly played one of our best games of the season in Ankara and it was a match at a really high European level. I think we can take some more energy and confidence in our ability from that (...). Everyone knows about the quality of our opponents from Ankara. They have already played a lot and won just as much. This team is moulded for it and has the confidence to win. We've been working towards this game and couldn't be much better prepared at the moment (...). Everyone is in rhythm and I'm also pleased that Tobias Krick is back on board. That gives us one more options. It will be a great show and we can do something special at home with our fans. We want to defend our Volleyballtempel with everything we've got."
