Over three days at the end of June, the first ever edition of the Swedish Beach Volleyball Club Championships took place in the town of Västerås near Stockholm. 08 Beachvolley Club (women) and Slow Down Beachvolleyklubb (men) were crowned national champions after a thrilling weekend with many exciting battles in the sand. This way, they secured the right to represent Sweden in the second edition of the CEV Beach Volley European Cup scheduled for later this year.

Slow Down Beachvolleyklubb celebrate their triumph in the men's competition

One of summer’s major highlights in Swedish Beach Volleyball has come to an end. A total of sixteen teams, eight in the women’s and just as many in the men’s category, competed over three days to become Sweden’s first ever Club Champions.

After a lot of tight games, which were often only decided in a Golden Set to 15 points, 08 Beachvolley Club and Slow Down Beachvolleyklubb faced each other in the men’s final. And even in this match, a Golden Set had to decide over who would emerge victorious. Theodor Grahn and Linus Isaksson, two youngsters with international experience, eventually came out on top and secured the title for Slow Down Beachvolleyklubb. Bronze went to Gothenburg Beachvolley Club and IK Studenterna i Umeå.

08 Beachvolley Club was happy with the silver medal, and was even able to take home another accolade, as the club on the women’s side managed to beat Gothenburg in the finals! Gothenburg, the biggest Beach Volleyball Club in Sweden and a slight favourite in the battle for gold, saw themselves defeated 2-0 by Sanna Thurin/Tina Thurin and Sara Cavretti/Emilia Berg and thus went home with a silver medal. Malmö Beach Club and the second team from Gothenburg shared bronze.
