The clubs of TSV Unterhaching 1910 e.V. and TSV München 1860 e.V. are starting a cooperation to make sure elite Volleyball returns to enjoy the right level of success in and around Munich. With the 2021/2022 season, the men's Bundesliga team will play under the joint name TSV Haching Munich. Through the cooperation of the two clubs, the sports city of Munich will once again have a volleyball Bundesliga team.

High-class Volleyball has a long tradition in Unterhaching. The four-time DVV Cup winner, three-time league runner-up and participant in the CEV Cup and Champions League, TSV Unterhaching 1910, currently plays with its men's team in the Volleyball Bundesliga, the highest division in German Volleyball.  At TSV 1860 München, the volleyball department under Stelian Moculescu was a very successful division of the club until 1989, claiming four national league titles and five DVV Cup wins.

Robert Reisinger, President of TSV 1860 München, says, “Volleyball has a successful history with us Lions. We want to build on this and re-establish the sport, which is very attractive for spectators, at TSV 1860. Both sides benefit from the cooperation with TSV Unterhaching 1910.”

Robert Langwieser, from TSV Unterhaching, is also very happy about the cooperation and says, “Already as a young player and budding official at Haching, I was a fan at the Rudi-Sedlmayer-Halle for the championship games. I am very happy that we can now bring together two clubs with a successful volleyball past into a common future in the Volleyball Bundesliga.”

Volleyball icon Stelian Moculescu has welcomed the cooperation as well:

“I am very happy for Haching. I have very fond memories of TSV München 1860 from the days when we became multiple German champions. A very special experience came when we celebrated after winning the championship in front of a full football stadium. I wish the new team every success and I will be watching many games live.”

The strategy is to develop and expand youth and amateur Volleyball in both clubs, using each other’s synergies, resources and knowhow as a basis for competitive sport. All club memberships and amateur teams at TSV Unterhaching 1910 will remain in place. TSV 1860 München will again run its own volleyball department in the future.

The operational responsibility for the men’s team in the German Volleyball Bundesliga, including the licence, player contracts, match day organisation and marketing, will remain with TSV Unterhaching 1910. TSV 1860 München will not assume any financial obligations. In return, the major club, which has around 23,000 members, will provide marketing and communications support and address its fans and members.

“We hope that the cooperation with TSV 1860 München will improve the marketing, positioning and visibility of the Bundesliga team,” explains Mihai Paduretu, managing director of TSV Unterhaching 1910.

Viola Oberländer, club manager of TSV München 1860 e.V., is also very pleased about the re-inclusion of Volleyball in the club:

“After several successful partnerships in recent years, I am now looking forward to another partner with whom the club can grow together, expand the range of sports and achieve success in the first division.”

As a partner of the strategy and personnel consultancy SPORTHEADS, Dr Marcus Hochhaus advises both clubs on the strategic design and successful marketing in this cooperation (www.sportheads.de).

The press conference announcing the agreement between the two clubs took place at SCHWARM Technologies, sponsor of TSV Unterhaching. Ben Ibata, CEO of SCHWARM Technologies, says, “Technology, energy and alliance are three attributes that unite us with TSV Unterhaching. We are looking forward to the new partnership with TSV München 1860 and we are excited for the upcoming season.”
