The Slovenian National Snow Volleyball Championship is set to be hosted once again by Krvavec Ski Resort, a venue that has already witnessed thrilling action on snowy surface in both 2019 and 2023. Slovenian players are already gearing up for the hunt for the national title and medals, which will be at stake on Sunday, March 17.

Krvavec Ski Resort will host the Slovenian national championship for a third time

The event will mark the fourth edition of the National Snow Volleyball Championships run by the Volleyball Federation of Slovenia (OZS). In its premiere in 2018, when teams were still consisting of two players only, the volleyball community gathered in Žiri, and the first, historic national championship titles were awarded to Anže Bahč/Tadej Boženk and to Bernarda Baron/Meta Grbec in the men’s and women’s category, respectively. This way, they secured the right to represent Slovenia at the inaugural EuroSnowVolley in Austria.

Snow Volleyball underwent its first major transformation in 2019 when the FIVB and CEV expanded team rosters to a minimum of three, and up to four players. Soon after that, Krvavec Ski Resort witnessed a real Snow Volleyball spectacle with this renewed format, and the trio of Anže Bahč, Tadej Boženk, and Denis Robida emerged victorious in the men’s competition, while Živa Griljc, Tia Grgičević, and Katarina Mehle claimed gold in the women’s category.

Organisers expect a thrilling battle for the domestic crowns

Due to the outbreak and subsequent spreading of the coronavirus pandemic and the resulting restrictions, the national championships were cancelled both in 2020 and 2021. The 2022 competition was initially scheduled for Kope Ski Resort, but due to a lack of snow, the organisers were forced to cancel it at a very short notice. In 2023, at the Krvavec Ski Resort, Tadej Boženk, Denis Robida, Alan Košenina, and Danijel Pokeršnik clinched the men’s title, while Sara Valenčič, Teja Kolbl, and Anastazija Žnidar claimed the women’s gold.

This year’s championship promises an even more spectacular Snow Volleyball event at Krvavec on March 17. Organisers anticipate 16 teams battling for the national titles across three courts set up at the local Plaža Krvavec.
