In an intense five-set battle in Kópavogur, Georgia defeated Austria 3-2 (28-26, 25-23, 13-25, 25-27, 15-13) in the opening weekend of the CEV Women’s European Silver League 2025. The game had everything: dramatic comebacks, long rallies, and breakout performances that kept the small crowd in Iceland on the edge of their seats.
Georgia’s captain Ann Kalandadze led the way with a dominant 31-point performance, combining power and finesse with 27 attacks. Magda Kobaidze added 15 points and was especially effective in reception and transition play. On the Austrian side, Kora Schaberl shone with 28 points, while Nina Nesimovic impressed with a highly efficient 19-point contribution.
The match swung wildly with both teams trading set wins with close calls. Austria looked poised to steal the match after dominating the third set, but Georgia regrouped to narrowly claim the decider. It was a test of endurance and nerves - and the Georgians proved they had both in spades.
