Ankara, Turkey, October 6, 2014. Turkey’s Ilbank ANKARA did it again! On Monday the team from Turkey’s capital edged Romania’s CSM TARGOVISTE in the third and final match on schedule at Baskent Volleyball Hall to claim the title of this year’s women’s BVA Cup. This way Ilbank won their second title in the competition organised by the Balkan Volleyball Association and also got the right to participate in the 2015 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup where they will start their campaign playing ZOK GACKO of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first round.
Two days after beating Bulgaria’s Maritza PLOVDIV, Ilbank had the upper hand also in their clash with CSM TARGOVISTE by 3:1 (18-25, 26-24, 30-28, 25-23), thereby winning the BVA Cup for the second time in their history after previously achieving this feat in 2012.
Ilbank follow in the footsteps of Besiktas ISTANBUL that last year went from winning the BVA Cup all the way to the last act of the Challenge Cup where they ultimately lost to Zarechie ODINTSOVO of Russia. With Ilbank, six teams from Turkey will participate in the 2015 edition of the women’s European Cups. VakifBank, Fenerbahce Grundig and Eczacibasi VitrA are all set to compete in the elite CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League; Galatasaray Daikin will defend the country’s honours in the CEV Volleyball Cup and BURSA BBSK will represent Turkey – now together with Ilbank – in the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup.
Final standing
1. Ilbank ANKARA (TUR)
2. CSM TARGOVISTE (ROU)
3. Maritza PLOVDIV (BUL)
