A record-breaking 16 clubs in each gender – thereby representing as many as 15 National Federations from across Europe – will contest the second edition of the CEV Beach Volley European Cup scheduled for October 10-13 in Montpellier, France. After completion of a qualification process through domestic competitions run by the respective National Federations, 16 clubs will soon be taking to the court to compete for continental glory following last year’s premiere held in Balikesir, Türkiye.

As many as 16 clubs will contest the men's competition in Montpellier

Last year the event featured 10 clubs in each gender but the introduction of the CEV Beach Volley European Cup has obviously motivated more and more National Federations to deliver additional competition opportunities for their clubs and this has resulted in an expanded field for the event in Montpellier, which is due to involve 16 men’s clubs and just as many on the women’s side. Six National Federations will be making their historic debut in the Beach Volley European Cup – England, Romania, Sweden, and Ukraine with clubs competing in each gender, whereas Greece and Lithuania will be represented in the men’s and women’s competition, respectively.

BVC Ludus LJUBLJANA of Slovenia will return to defend the women’s title they won last year in Balikesir, where Murov AzTerminal BAKU of Azerbaijan secured men’s top honours. This time around, the Caucasus country will be represented by Azerrail instead – and the club from Azerbaijan’s capital will be fighting hard to keep the trophy in Baku.

As many as eight men’s clubs return to the Beach Volley European Cup after contesting the first edition in 2023. These are Aloha Beach Volleyballclub Wörthersee (Austria), Beach Club Strahov (Czechia), Beachbol La Malva Valencia (Spain), hosts Montpellier Beach Volley (France), SRSE Budapest (Hungary), Beach Volley Training Beinasco (Italy), BVC Ludus (Slovenia), and TVF Spor Lisesi Ihtisas Kulübü (Türkiye). On the other hand, the returnees in the women’s competition are ‘just’ six: Bergstrand Beachvolleyball (Austria), Azerrail (Azerbaijan), CV Majadahonda Madrid (Spain), Edra Tata (Hungary), Beach Volley Training Beinasco (Italy), and BVC Ludus Ljubljana (Slovenia).

With ideal weather conditions by this time of the year and a wealth of experience in the successful delivery of international Beach Volleyball events, Montpellier will provide a perfect platform for up-and-coming as well as more established teams to shine as they proudly represent their clubs and National Federations on the international stage. After a pool stage, the competition will continue with a knockout phase culminating in the semis followed by bronze and gold medal matches.

The CEV Beach Volley European Cup was introduced last year to expand the portfolio of Beach Volleyball activities and opportunities made available to stakeholders – with a focus on clubs and their key role in growing the sport even further.
