The world's number 1 team, the Swedish duo of David Ahman & Jonatan Hellvig has secured their spot into the quarterfinals of the Olympics, despite a rocky pool phase, seeing off the challenge of Diaz/Alayo from Cuba in the Round of 16.

In the quarter-finals, the "Flying Swedes" will be facing Brazil’s Evandro Oliveira & Arthur Mariano on Tuesday, the pair that eliminated Steven van de Velde & Matthew Immers of the Netherlands with a win in straight sets.

Norway's Beach Volley Vikings, the pair of Mol/Sørum defeated the Americans Eans/Budinger int he Round of 16 in straight sets. The defending Olympic champions will be growing in confidence going into the quarters following an almost flawless display of form up to this point.

Elsewhere, the Swiss women's pairs of Esmée/Zoé and Hüberli/Brunner have both made it into the quarter-finals following convincing straight sets wins, same as the Germans Ehlers/Wickler and Dutch pair Boermans/de Groot. This morning, in an all-European battle, the decorated Latvians Tina/Anastasija fought hard to get their quarter-finals place, defeating the Germans Muller/Tillman in an enthralling 3 sets match.
