This past week, a Beach Pro Tour Futures event was held with much success in Leuven, Belgium, where Beach Volleyball has slowly but surely established itself as a major attraction for a competition of this calibre has now been delivered for a number of consecutive years. The Organising Committee could celebrate the event delivery with a special award from the City of Louvain, namely with the laying of a commemorative stone on the square named after Monseigneur Paulin Ladeuze.
The event was also an opportunity to grow and inspire the next generation of Belgian Beach Volleyball referees, who could learn from the likes of renowned international referees such as Fabio Ancora and Christos Kouvelos. The President of the European Refereeing Commission (ERC), Arturo Di Giacomo, attended the Leuven Futures as well – as the Commission continues to foster the education of younger, talented referees in order to elevate the quality and consistency of Volleyball and Beach Volleyball refereeing in Europe.
The double-gender Leuven Futures was a major success at all levels – with many fans in attendance, and the home teams representing Belgium claiming as many as three medals, including men’s gold – so the City of Leuven is likely to continue and even expand its support for future such events and projects that help position the city on the European sports map.
