An incredible dream ending to the men's beach volleyball tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, with the former Olympic champions, the "Beach Volleyball Vikings" from Norway bouncing back from the semis defeat to claim bronze against Qatar, confirming an All-European Olympic Podium.
Norway's Mol & Sorum showed a dominant display against Tokyo's bronze medalists from Qatar, Cherif Younousse & Ahmed Tijan managing a straight sets win (2-0; 21-13, 21-16) and with it a second Olympic medal for the already highly decorated Norwegians.
Mol for FIVB“We're feeling really, really happy! First of all, we are super proud of the way we fought back after a really tough loss in the semifinal. The dream was for sure to play this next match and play for gold, but now we had to reset and refocus and just forget this semifinal loss. And I'm really proud of the way we kind of bounced back here in the bronze medal match. Standing here with the bronze medal is something really, really I am proud of.”
In the Final, The "Flying Swedes", Ahman/Hellvig faced the German duo made up of Ehlers/Wickler and the reigning European champs and top seeded team put up an inspiring performance to fulfill their Olympic dream of winning Gold.
They started the first set extremely strong and continued as strong throughout. Their signature jump set worked wonders, never letting the Germans know what their next play might be. An emphatic first set win that saw them keep Ehlers/Wickler to a minimum double digit score.
In the second set, the Germans seemed to be way more connected to what is at stake in this final and started putting up a fight, working hard for every point. It was not enough and the Swedes started running away with the game towards the second part of the set, confirming an amazing performance on the night and claiming an unbelievable gold medal at the age of 22. Final score, 2-0 (21-10; 21-13), a first for Sweden in either the men's or the women's events.
