Oxyklinika come back to win their opening duel in Montpellier

The Lithuanians of Oxyklinika came from behind to win their opening duel in Montpellier and were one of the eight women’s club teams to go undefeated on Thursday, the opening day of the second edition of the CEV Beach Volley European Cup.

The men also got their tournament going at the Club Montpellier Beach Volley, with eight clubs securing victories in their first duels. The eight sides in each gender that started the event with victories are all guaranteed a spot in the elimination rounds.

On Friday, these teams will play the pool finals, with the four winners advancing directly to the quarterfinals. The clubs that lose those matches will progress to the Round of 12, which will also feature the teams that prevail in the four duels reuniting the competitors that dropped their opening matches on Thursday.

Having Urte Andriukaityte, Rugile Grudzinskaite, Gerda Grudzinskaite and Marija Karaliute in their roster, Oxyklinika dropped the first match of their Pool D series against Italy’s Beach Volley Training 2-0 (21-15, 21-19). The Lithuanians then regrouped and topped the Italians in both the second duel (21-17, 21-15) and the golden set (15-11) to triumph.

Their opponents in Friday’s pool final will be the Hungarians of Ėdra Tata, who overcame the Swedish of 08 Beachvolley Club – Stockholm in two matches.

In Pool A, defending champions BVC Ludus of Slovenia and Azerrail of Azerbaijan won their series against Spain’s Voley Playa Madrid and Austria’s Bergstrand Beachvolleyball respectively in two matches and are guaranteed a spot in the elimination rounds.

CEV Beach Volley European Cup – Women’s Schedule & Results

Pool B was dominated by Spain’s CV Majadahonda Madrid, who defeated France's Beach Volley Toulousain in two matches, and Czechia’s Beachvolejbalova škola Praha, who needed the golden set to beat the Romanians of C.S.U A.S.E. Bucuresti.

The two women’s clubs already qualified in Pool C are Ukraine’s Sunrise Beach Spors Academy, who handled Türkiye’s TVF Spor Lisesi Ihtisas Kulübü in two matches, and France’s Bordeaux Beach Chillers, who also needed just two games to top England’s Deep Dish Bournemouth.

On the men’s side, the hosts of Montpellier Beach Volley had a strong start and were among the eight winning teams on the opening day. They defeated England’s Fireball North Devon in two matches and will play for the top spot in Pool D with the Swedish of Slow Down BeachVolley Club Åhus, who overcame the Hungarians of SRSE Budapest in the golden set.

Led by Bello twins Javier and Joaquin, Spain’s CVP Poniente Benidorm Alicante defeated the Turkish of TVF Spor Lisesi Ihtisas Kulübü in two tight matches and will compete with Ukraine’s Sunrise Beach Sports Academy, who got the better of Czechia’s Beachclub Strahov, for the quarterfinal spot available in Pool B.

In Pool A, the top teams were Slovenia’s BVC Ludus, who came from behind to top Spain’s Beachbol La Malva Valencia in the golden set, and Azerbaijan’s Azerrail, who bested France’s Ré Beach Club in two matches.

The scenario in Pool C had Italy’s Beach Volley Training and Austria’s Aloha Beachvolleyball Club Wörthersee in the lead – they dominated Romania’s C.S.U Stiinta Politehnica Bucuresti and Greece’s 4 Sports Club Athens respectively.
