Slovenian Beach Volleyball players ready for the Nations Cup

Slovenian Beach Volleyball players are set to return to the sand for the opening phase of the Nations Cup that will take place on May 16-17 in Riga against hosts Latvia, Denmark, and Croatia. The Slovenian roster features Jaka Prevorčnik and David Renko, who are making their national team debut, alongside Benjamin Mugerli and Jaka Jevšnik, who joined forces ahead of this season.
The Slovenian pairs mostly prepared in Ljubljana and recently competed at the MEVZA Championship in Czechia as part of their final build-up. National team head coach Tadej Boženk remains realistic about his team’s first appearance:
“We have a young team as the Federation is currently building a core for the next eight years, and we are only at the beginning of that journey. It won’t be easy for us in Latvia as we are in a tough group where the hosts, with teams that compete at the highest level in the Beach Pro Tour series, are the clear favourites. The Danish teams are also of a very high quality, but I still believe we can surprise them and secure at least second place, which is our primary goal.”
Jaka Prevorčnik, who won his first national title with David Renko last year, expressed great excitement for his debut in the Slovenian jersey:
“It is very important that we reached the form we had last year very quickly, and now we can only improve our game further before the start of the competition. We have to set high goals, even if they might not be the most realistic, because that is the only way to achieve what we expect of ourselves.”
Following the men’s tournament, the Slovenian women’s team will begin their campaign on May 23-24 in Constanta. They will face Romania, Czechia, and Croatia for a chance to advance to the final stage of the competition due to take place in Hungary in mid-July.
