Fresh from having represented Spain at last year’s Paris Olympics, 23-year-old Daniela Álvarez and 22-year-old Tania Moreno enter this week’s event as the heavy favorites to win gold. The only players in the entire field with Olympic experience, the two have achieved strong results at the highest level of the sport.

The 2022 U22 European champions, they took silver at the 2023 CEV EuroBeachVolley and won three medals on Beach Pro Tour Challenge events. Álvarez and Moreno will make their first appearance in a Futures event since they took bronze in Balikesir, Türkiye, in June 2022.

The main threat for the Spanish Olympians is another team from the host country, formed by 18-year-old Marta Carro and 23-year-old Sofía González, who will play together for the first time this week in Madrid and are seeded second.

Seeded fifth, Austrians Lilli Hohenauer, 18, and Lia Berger, 17, are the reigning U18 European champions. They will this week play in a Beach Pro Tour event for just the third time in their careers.

The Beach Pro Tour Futures events in Europe are run by the CEV in close cooperation with Volleyball World and provide teams from the continent with several opportunities to compete and gain valuable international ranking points.
