Just two weeks after being crowned as the U20 European champions, French Arthur Canet and Téo Rotar won their first international title at the senior level, triumphing in a Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Futures event held in their home sand Montpellier.

Canet and Rotar topped the all-French podium in Montpellier

Strongly dominated by the host country, which had teams occupying each of the four top spots, the tournament was held from Wednesday to Sunday at the Montpellier Place Georges Frêche and reunited 27 teams from 15 countries.

In order to take gold in front of their home fans, Canet, 18, and Rotar, 19, had to overcome the temporary duo of Rémi Bassereau and Arnaud Gauthier Rat, which recently finished ninth at the A1 CEV EuroBeachVolley.

The 2021 U19 world champions were dominant in the gold medal match, controlling the top-seeded Bassereau and Gauthier-Rat to a two-set (21-16, 21-15) victory.

The all-French podium was completed by the Aye brothers Quincy and Calvin, who defeated Samuel Catter and Olivier Barthelemy in the two-set (21-19, 21-17) bronze medal match and made their second podium appearance as partners, following their victory at last year’s Cortegaça Futures.

Next week, only the women will be in action on the Beach Pro Tour, competing in a single-gender Futures event in Wilanow, Poland, from Thursday to Sunday.

The Beach Pro Tour Futures events in Europe are run by the CEV in close cooperation with Volleyball World and provide teams from the continent with several opportunities to compete and gain valuable ranking points during the Olympic qualification period for the Paris 2024 Games.
