Vieira/Chamereau and Hladun/Lazarenko clash for historic gold
EuroBeachVolley
The CEV EuroBeachVolley will have a country stepping at the top of the women’s podium for the first time on Sunday, when the 2025 edition of the tournament comes to an end in Düsseldorf, with French Clémence Vieira and Aline Chamereau and Ukrainians Maryna Hladun and Tetiana Lazarenko meeting in the gold medal match.
French and Ukrainians will play for gold on Sunday, at 14:30 local time, at the Rochus Club. Earlier, at 13:15, Germans Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann and Spanish Daniela Álvarez and Tania Moreno will meet in the bronze medal match.
Ahead of Sunday’s gold medal match in Düsseldorf, nine different countries have topped the podium among the women. Germany lead the way with nine titles, followed by Italy (5), Switzerland (4), the Netherlands (3), Greece (3), Latvia (3), Czechia (2), Austria (1) and Russia (1).
In excellent form since they represented their country at last year’s Paris Olympics, the 24-year-old Vieira and the 29-year-old Chamereau found their way to the gold medal match with a massive semifinal victory on Saturday, taking down defending champions and fan favourites Müller and Tillmann in two sets (21-13, 21-16).
Playing together in the EuroBeachVolley for the third time, the French made it to the gold medal match undefeated, with five victories. They are just the second team from their country to get to the final, repeating what Anabelle Prawerman and Cécile Rigaux did back in 1999, and will now try to become the first ones to earn gold.
Clémence Vieira“I’m very proud of our team and really happy. We had some family members supporting us here all week and when we qualified for the semifinals, some more made the trip. We have a big team behind us. The crowd was against us today, but the energy was amazing.”

Ukrainians secure first medal
The first Ukrainian team to ever make it to the EuroBeachVolley gold medal match, Hladun and Lazarenko also produced a massive victory in the semifinals, beating Paris Olympians and 2023 EuroBeachVolley silver medalists Álvarez and Moreno in the tie-breaker (15-21, 21-16, 15-11) to continue undefeated in Düsseldorf with five victories.
One of the fastest-rising teams in international beach volleyball now, the 32-year-old Hladun and the 21-year-old Lazarenko have already made history in Düsseldorf, earning Ukraine’s first-ever women’s medal at the EuroBeachVolley – Sergiy Popov and Eduard Reznik took bronze among the men two years ago. Partners since 2023, they appeared in the event last year, finishing ninth.
Maryna Hladun“This is so special for us. It was our dream and it finally came through, I still can’t believe it. It’s a really big step for us.”

The Ukrainians and their French opponents have met just once in international events before Sunday’s final and Hladun and Lazarenko came out on top, triumphing in straight sets (21-15, 21-17) in a qualifier match at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Quintana Roo Elite event in Mexico just over four months ago.
