One week after the men did it, the women are now ready to hit the sand in Warsaw, the Polish capital, which will host this week’s Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Futures event in Europe.
The women’s tournament in Warsaw, which will have the popular Plaza Wilanow as its venue, will feature 28 teams (25 of which are from Europe) from 15 countries, including 12 nations from the host continent, from Thursday to Sunday.
Hosts Poland will have the most teams, with six duos entered. Europe will have another 19 teams in action, from Czechia (3), Finland (3), Sweden (3), Lithuania (2), Ukraine (2), Estonia, Germany, Norway, Scotland, Slovakia and Switzerland. Brazil, Canada and Japan will have one duo each.
One of the top Polish players in the last few years, Aleksandra Wachowicz will be in action this weekend in Warsaw. With longtime partner Jagoda Sliwka out for this one, the 32-year-old veteran will pair for the first time with 18-year-old Julia Radelczuk.
Estonians Heleene Hollas and Liisa Remmelg, who won silver earlier this year in Baden, will be among the main threats to the top-seeded Polish alongside Ukrainians Inna Makhno and Sofiia Rylova and Germans Kim van de Velde and Leonie Klinke.
The event will begin on Thursday with the qualifier, where 16 teams will compete for four spots in the main draw. Pool play will be held on Friday, with the Round of 12 and quarterfinals following on Saturday and the semifinals and medal matches ending the event on Sunday.
The Beach Pro Tour Futures events in Europe are run by the CEV in close cooperation with Volleyball World and provide teams from the continent with several opportunities to compete and gain valuable international ranking points.
